Rangers-linked ref conspiracy theory aired by Rod Stewart, McCoist silences Celtic fans

Rod Stewart questions referee impartiality as McCoist jabs at Celtic fan concerns

Scottish music legend and Celtic supporter Rod Stewart has raised concerns about referee bias in Scottish football following Rangers’ 5-1 victory over Kilmarnock.

The match featured a controversial penalty awarded after Dom Thompson fouled Djeidi Gassama, with James Tavernier converting the spot-kick.

Despite acknowledging that the penalty was correct, Stewart spoke on talkSPORT with fellow Celtic fan Alan Brazil, questioning the process used to appoint referees in Scotland and suggesting a system similar to the English Premier League might improve neutrality.

Brazil offered the Rangers perspective, highlighting that their team has also faced contentious officiating decisions, showing how long-standing referee debates continue to divide fans. Stewart expressed frustration at the perception of bias, stating, “How can we change that? It doesn’t make Scottish football look very good.”

Adding humor to the discussion, former Rangers striker Ally McCoist joked that Stewart and Brazil seemed worried about Rangers’ recent surge in form, pointing to the competitive intensity of the Scottish Premiership.

As the season progresses, the debate over fairness and transparency in refereeing remains a hot topic among fans and former players alike.
