If reports from transfer insider Sacha Tavolieri are accurate, Rangers are closely monitoring Mujaid Sadick ahead of a possible move in the January transfer window. The Ibrox side have struggled defensively across competitions this season, and the Genk centre-back is being viewed as a potential solution to their ongoing issues at the back.
The 25-year-old Spaniard, a former youth international, came through the Deportivo La Coruña academy, impressing for both their reserves and senior team before earning a move to Genk in 2021 for around €1.7 million. Since then, he has established himself as a solid defender known for his strength, composure, and ball-playing ability. His comfort in possession and capacity to play out from the back make him a natural fit for Danny Rohl’s system, especially with the manager recently adopting a back-three formation that demands tactical flexibility from his defenders.
Why Rangers Should Move for Sadick
Rangers underwent a major squad rebuild last summer under sporting director Kevin Thelwell, bringing in Russell Martin as head coach and adding several new defensive recruits, including Nasser Djiga, Manny Fernandez, and Derek Cornelius. However, none of them have fully convinced so far. Fernandez has barely featured, while Djiga and Cornelius have struggled for consistency since arriving from Wolves and Marseille respectively.
Defensive instability has been a long-standing issue at Ibrox, with the likes of Robin Propper, Neraysho Kasanwirjo, and Rafael Fernandes underperforming last season. Veteran Leon Balogun was not offered a new deal, and youngster Clinton Nsiala appears out of the first-team picture. Martin’s departure didn’t resolve those problems, and the mediocre performances of their summer signings have left Rohl seeking reinforcements.
Given Sadick’s experience, composure, and suitability to Rohl’s tactical setup, he could be the defensive upgrade Rangers desperately need this winter.
