Rangers manager Danny Rohl provides clarity on Nasser Djiga’s availability ahead of their showdown with Hibernian

Rangers may still be able to call on Nasser Djiga for their match with Hibs despite the defender earning a call-up to the Burkina Faso national team for the Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament kicks off on December 18 and runs through to January 21, meaning participating players must be released well in advance.

Djiga remains available for Thursday’s Europa League meeting with Ferencváros, giving Danny Rohl at least one more opportunity to use the centre-half before he departs for international duty.

The issue arises because the league game with Hibs has been moved to Monday night. That date, December 15, is the exact deadline when clubs must release their players for AFCON preparations. This overlap puts Djiga’s availability for the Scottish Premiership clash in doubt.

Manager Danny Rohl is still hopeful the situation can be negotiated, although he acknowledges the rules surrounding international call-ups leave very little flexibility.

He explained: “We need to look into the details. Usually these regulations are strict, and there’s no room to negotiate.

“Players are supposed to be released seven days before the tournament begins.

“We’ll just have to wait and see what the outcome is.
