The Celtic TV commentary crew ridicules Philippe Clement, the manager of Rangers, following the
VAR goal call. The Celtic TV commentary team was unable to resist a light-hearted jab at Philippe Clement as they observed the Hoops run rampant at Hampden this evening. The Premier Sports Cup semi-final saw the Scottish Premiership leaders dominate their closest rivals, Aberdeen, with a 6-0 score. The game was both comprehensive and straightforward. A number of players stood out as they put the Dons back in their place, resulting in a result and performance that secured their position in the upcoming cup final at the national stadium. Cameron Carter-Vickers scored the opening goal for his team with a towering header, and Kyogo followed up with a strike that bounced off the woodwork after Daizen Maeda’s excellent work. The latter subsequently scored the third and fourth goals for the eventual victors, completing his hat-trick after Nicolas Kuhn had also scored in the rout.
However, VAR was the focal point of Kuhn’s goal, as referee Kevin Clancy and the officials in the technology van endeavoured to analyse the build-up in order to determine if there was a potential offside. Arne Engels was the player in issue who attempted to run in behind before the Belgian ultimately found itself at Kuhn’s feet. The German was fortunate to have a heavy touch that was returned to him by Kyogo, but the finish was anything but providential as he curled in a peach off the crossbar to secure the victory. Philippe Clement was subjected to trolling by Gerry McCulloch and Peter Grant on Celtic TV. Celtic TV’s presenter Gerry McCulloch and club icon Peter Grant were providing the play-by-play action to the spectators at home as the players on the pitch awaited the lines being drawn. Grant delivered a sarcastic remark in response to Rangers manager Clement’s recent complaints regarding an offside goal that his team scored in a midweek loss to Aberdeen, which was managed by Jimmy Thelin. Grant remarked, “A definite toe nail,” as he viewed footage of Engels. McCulloch chuckled in response, adding, “Those toe nails are important.” A “toe nail” VAR decision against Rangers vs Aberdeen at Pittodrie had been lamented by Clement. Clement had expressed his dissatisfaction with a VAR call against the Dons and indicated that Ross McCausland was only a “toe nail” away from being onside at Pittodrie.
It was enormously disheartening to lose, but it was a game in which we could have achieved a draw or, on a particularly fortunate day, win. One toe or toe nail was offside, and we scored a goal. “At present, those moments are not in our favour.” Initially, we performed admirably; however, Aberdeen became our primary adversary, and we encountered considerable difficulty.
