Rangers poised to offload Matondo as £3.5m “talented” star targeted

Rabbi Matondo made his first appearance for Rangers in over a year, coming off the bench in the 2-0 victory against Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

The Wales international replaced Djeidi Gassama in the 93rd minute on Sunday. His previous appearance for the Gers was in a 1-1 draw at Dundee on 9 January 2025, before a loan spell at Hannover during the second half of that season.

Matondo had been an unused substitute in the two games prior to the win over Aberdeen but finally got onto the pitch in the latest fixture.

While it remains uncertain whether Matondo will feature against Annan Athletic, his time at Ibrox could soon be coming to an end. Rangers are actively pursuing multiple wide players.

Journalist Chris Jack reports that the club is close to confirming the loan signing of Andreas Skov Olsen from Wolfsburg until the end of the season.

In addition, Rangers are reportedly monitoring winger Damir Redzic of Slovak side Dunajska Strada.

The 2025/26 season has seen Redzic attract attention due to his performances, with the possibility of a permanent deal in the summer for around £9m — more than the £8m spent on Youssef Chermiti last year. Reports suggest a January fee of roughly £3.5m could be enough to secure the Hungarian forward.

Signing Redzic would strengthen Rangers’ wing options and allow Danny Rohl to sanction Matondo’s departure.

The Welshman has remained in the squad because of a lack of depth on the flanks, but with multiple signings this month, Rohl could finally move him on. Matondo has missed 65 matches due to injury since joining the Scottish giants in 2022, according to Transfermarkt.
