Rangers speculation heats up with announcement on Jens Hjerto-Dahl

Rangers have frequently been linked with a move for Jens Hjerto-Dahl.

Ahead of the January winter transfer window, the Ibrox side were reported to be interested in the Tromso midfielder, though no deal materialized.

After signing Sturm Graz midfielder Tochi Chukwuani, Rangers appeared to have less urgency to bolster their central midfield.

While speculation suggested the 20-year-old might join Danny Rohl’s squad this summer, Rangers Review journalist Chris Jack cast doubt on any imminent move.

However, the Norway Under-21 international has now made a decision that could reshape his career. Hjerto-Dahl has committed his future to Tromso.

Following reports that he was merely on Rangers’ radar rather than a guaranteed summer signing, Hjerto-Dahl has extended his contract with Tromso for four more years, keeping him at the Eliteserien club until 2029. The club praised him as one of their “greatest talents” from the academy, while the player expressed pride in representing the team and city.

“I have great faith in the work we do here at TIL,” Hjerto-Dahl said. “I’m very proud to represent the city and club, and I look forward to creating more moments at the stadium with the fans.”

Despite still being early in his career, he has featured over 85 times for Tromso, scoring 12 goals, and was twice named league young player of the month in 2025. Sporting director Lars Petter Andressen said the club is thrilled with his decision to stay, highlighting his belief in Tromso’s future.

This extension could also be a strategic move to boost his market value ahead of a potential summer transfer, though it’s possible Hjerto-Dahl is simply happy playing a key role in Norway.

Rangers brought in four new players during the winter window, including Ryan Naderi, who aims to strengthen a goal-shy attack, while Andreas Skov Olsen scored his first goal in their 5-1 win over Kilmarnock.

Chukwuani has impressed, and Tuur Rommens may also prove a valuable addition. Whether these acquisitions will help Rangers claim their first league title since 2021 remains to be seen.

Next up, Rangers host Queen’s Park in the Scottish Cup fifth round on Sunday.
