Rangers have reportedly reached an agreement to secure what would be one of their most eye-catching signings in recent years, with Andreas Skov Olsen set for a move to Ibrox.
According to reports, the Denmark international could even arrive in Glasgow as early as today to complete the final stages of the deal.
Rangers’ interest in the 26-year-old is not new, having first targeted him around four years ago before circumstances prevented a move at the time.
Over the weekend, it emerged that the Light Blues had reignited their pursuit of Skov Olsen, and late on Sunday it was exclusively revealed that negotiations with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg were progressing rapidly. That momentum now appears to have paid off, with Rangers closing in on an agreement that would give them control over a potential high-value permanent transfer in the summer.
Danish outlet Tipsbladet reports that Rangers and Wolfsburg have now agreed terms, with Skov Olsen set to join the Scottish club on loan until the end of the season. Crucially, the deal is said to include an option for Rangers to make the transfer permanent once the campaign concludes.
The report also claims Wolfsburg have granted the winger permission to travel to Scotland, effectively giving him the green light to finalise the move. Upon arrival, Skov Olsen is expected to undergo a medical examination before putting pen to paper on his Rangers contract. It is believed the experienced international could be in Glasgow as soon as today to complete the process.
Skov Olsen boasts an impressive résumé, having earned 40 caps for Denmark and featured at two European Championships as well as a World Cup. His arrival would represent a significant statement of intent from Rangers and chairman Andrew Cavenagh, particularly given Wolfsburg paid around £12 million to sign him from Club Brugge just last January.
Prior to his move to Germany, Skov Olsen enjoyed a productive three-year spell in Belgium, scoring 35 league goals in 90 appearances and establishing himself as one of the Pro League’s standout attackers. He began his professional career at Nordsjælland, a club that continues to have strong links with Rangers. January signing Tochi Chukwuani also emerged from the Danish side’s academy, as did Mohamed Diomande.
With Chukwuani already secured in a £4 million deal from Sturm Graz, Rangers are expected to remain active in the market. A £3.5 million move for Belgian defender Tuur Rommens from Westerlo is also anticipated to be confirmed imminently.
The flurry of transfer activity underlines Rangers’ ambition as they look to build on an impressive run of form under manager Danny Rohl.
The Gers have firmly inserted themselves into the Premiership title race and currently sit second in the table, three points behind leaders Hearts and three ahead of Celtic, albeit having played one game more than both rivals.
