Rangers website under fire from Keith Jackson, who calls the new head coach Danny Rohl report with a strong claim

Rangers aim to return to winning ways following the appointment of Danny Rohl as their new manager.

After a lengthy search led by Andrew Cavenagh to find Russell Martin’s successor, the Gers finally settled on the former Sheffield Wednesday head coach. However, Rohl already faces an uphill task at Ibrox, with many supporters initially hoping to see either Steven Gerrard or Kevin Muscat take the reins after both were strongly linked with the job.

The German coach will need to work hard to win over sections of the fanbase. While Rangers have made efforts to present a positive image, some gestures appear to have gone a little too far.

According to Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson, parts of the club’s approach have been a “shambles,” suggesting that the Ibrox hierarchy may be trying too hard to impress fans.

Jackson did, however, praise Rohl for bringing back the traditional manager’s suit—something Russell Martin had abandoned—but criticised a photo the club shared highlighting the new boss’s brown brogues. Speaking on Hotline Live on 22 October, Jackson said:

“I think on Rangers’ official website today, there was actually a picture of his brown brogues. So, as much as I’m giving him credit for doing that and being quite clever, what’s that? What are they doing? It’s a shambles.”

Martin, who opted for trainers during his own unveiling at Ibrox, was widely mocked for that choice—one of several early missteps during his tenure.

Rohl, by contrast, seems keen to strike the right tone before taking charge of his first match and appears determined not to alienate the Gers faithful from the outset.

Lingering Doubts at Ibrox

Despite optimism surrounding his appointment, some concerns remain. Comparisons to Russell Martin persist, with many viewing Rohl as a similar type of manager due to his tactical preferences. Yet that may be an unfair assessment.

At Sheffield Wednesday, Rohl proved adaptable under pressure, experimenting with multiple formations and revitalising the club’s bond with its fans. Since his exit, the Owls have spiralled under Dejphon Chansiri’s chaotic ownership.

Martin’s rigid approach often stifled progress—a flaw Rohl appears less likely to repeat. Still, for all the positive talk and polished presentation, Rangers supporters will only be convinced once results begin to turn in G51.
