Reason behind the second-half stoppage in Wrexham’s EFL Championship clash with Norwich

Wrexham’s EFL Championship clash with Norwich City was temporarily halted in the second half at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday due to a medical emergency in the crowd.

The game had been level at 1-1 after Anis Ben Slimane opened the scoring for Norwich in the opening 10 minutes, with Sam Smith equalising for Wrexham midway through the first half.

The teams returned for the second half, but just five minutes in, play was stopped and both sides retreated to the tunnel.

Wrexham took to X to confirm the pause: “Due to a medical emergency in the crowd the game has been paused and the players have left the field.” Norwich echoed the message, sending their best wishes to those affected. The Red Dragons later added that the match would resume after a five-minute warm-up at 16:20.

After play resumed, Norwich secured a 2-1 victory thanks to Jovon Makama’s 59th-minute strike.

The game highlighted Wrexham’s continued adaptation to the Championship, with the club currently sitting eighth in the table under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, having achieved three consecutive promotions from the National League in recent seasons.
