Reason why Arsenal 23-year-old defender Jurrien Timber was not sent off after harsh incident with Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario

Dermot Gallagher, a former official in the Premier League, has talked about why Jurrien Timber of Arsenal wasn’t sent off in the North London Derby against Tottenham. Timber and Guglielmo Vicario got into a fight at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Timber fouled Pedro Porro. The first half was very tense.

Seven yellow cards were given out by Jarred Gillett in the first 45 minutes. William Saliba, Destiny Udogie, and Rodrigo Bentancur were all cautioned before the big event of the half. A strong tackle on Porro by Timber in the 35th minute got him a yellow card. Timber hit Porro high on the leg.

Even though he got a touch on the ball, the challenge was deemed random, which made Vicario angry, especially since Timber was trying to keep playing. Due to his response, the Spurs goalkeeper got a yellow card. However, replays showed that Timber’s actions in that situation could have led to another yellow card or even a red card.

This happened as part of Sky Sports ref watch. The panel looked into it and explained why the Arsenal back wasn’t sent off and why VAR couldn’t be used. Galagher said, “That wasn’t a nice tackle.” “He uses the ball and goes over the top of it, but after stepping on it, he doesn’t get stronger or faster, which is why it’s a yellow card.”

“That one doesn’t show him flying through the air with a lot of force.” It’s much more even this year. There were more flags than before. This year, there is more physical contact allowed in handball because the rules are better and more people agree with them. We’ve seen a big change in how the referees follow the rules after four games.

Not long after the challenge, Timber got into a heated fight with Vicario and grabbed Vicario’s shirt, but Vicario was the one who got sent off. Gallagher said that Gillett would not have been able to see exactly what happened because so many players were running over, so he would have had to rely on other officials.

But VAR can only step in if they see violent behavior, and since Timber was already booked, they can’t suggest he get a second warning. If the Dutch player hadn’t been given a yellow card seconds before, things might have turned out very differently. Vicario was also booked for his part in the fight.
