Reason why Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was furious and shouted at referee Chris Kavanagh during the Arsenal vs. Brighton draw match
Referee Chris Kavanagh made Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta angry during the fight with Brighton, where Declan Rice was sent off for an odd reason.
It’s crazy that Arsenal lost their first points of the season even though they had the best chances and were down to 10 players. People will be talking a lot about Chris Kavanagh after the draw with a tough Seagulls team.
The Gunners took the lead when Kai Havertz scored after Bukayo Saka flicked the ball to him. The German then chipped the ball over Bart Verbruggen. But a red card for Declan Rice that people who saw the video didn’t understand gave Joao Pedro the chance to tie the game as the Seagulls came back.
Coaching for goalkeepers
Anything that happens during the warm-ups and things that are never shown on TV are always interesting to see before the game starts. This is one of the last tasks the team does. They build up and shoot against the backup and third-choice goalkeepers.
Thomas Setford was put on the Arsenal bench for the game since Aaron Ramsdale and Karl Hein had already left and Neto had not yet signed up. A fellow young goalkeeper, Alexei Rojas, was picked as the third choice.
Arsenal’s goalkeeping coach, Inaki Cana, was standing next to the goal as the starters lined up in a pattern to work on moves. The keepers would then go in and out of the net as the starters did so. Cana would give them comments right away every time someone rotated out, so that the next time they went back in, they were better prepared and learning. This is a clear feature of the coaching at the club that is carried over from training days to games and even the warm-ups.
Arsenal had many chances to score in the first few minutes of the game but didn’t take any of them. Arteta yells at White. It seemed like Bukayo Saka was a threat, and as is often the case, most of the danger was coming from the England international.
Of course, Ben White is now an important part of building that attack. He will make important runs and try to make sharp passes as the attack builds. Saka and Martin Odegaard either find these runs or use them as practice to get holes in the other team’s defense.
But as the break got closer, White was being caught high up the field, and Arteta was clearly getting tense. At one point, Arteta could be heard yelling down the field to White, telling him to go back to his right back spot and help William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, who were coming under more and more pressure from Brighton’s aggressive front line.
Arteta and Kavanagh
Declan Rice got a second yellow card for pushing Joel Veltman’s ball away at the start of the second half and was sent off. Everyone in the crowd didn’t understand why Chris Kavanagh sent off the midfielder.
In the first half, though, Mikel Arteta was furious that Joao Pedro clearly kicked the ball away and got away with it. With his arms raised, the Arsenal boss had to yell across the field to Kavanagh and the fourth official to his right.
Now that we can see it, the contradiction is clear.
