Reason why Everton FC was given a penalty during Newscatle United vs Everton match that resulted to their draw
1-0 to Newcastle United Everton: Eddie Howe had no problems with the late penalty his team gave up at St. James’ Park.
Before they gave up a late penalty in the 1-1 draw with Everton at St. James’ Park, Newcastle United was on track for their first back-to-back Premier League wins of 2024.
The Magpies took the lead in the first half through Alexander Isak. They had chances to make it 2-0, but Dan Burn’s goal was called offside, and Isak’s second goal was stopped by a goalline clearance.
REASON👎🏻
Lewis Hall was taken off in the 79th minute, and Paul Dummett came on as a last-ditch effort to save the game. Everton was given a penalty in the 87th minute after VAR checked that Dummett had thrown his arms around Ashley Young in a bad way. Because of Calvert-Lewin’s equalizer, Newcastle hasn’t won back-to-back Premier League games since early December.
ALSO
When you come on late in a game and you’re ahead, it’s always tough. For someone like me who plays defense, those times are always tough because you want to stay focused and help the team.
Paul has been great while I’ve been here; he’s a really nice, honest kid. It’s just one of those times that went against us, but I can’t blame the players because I thought we were really committed and played really well for most of the game.
Dummett came on for Lewis Hall near the end of the game because the 19-year-old looked like he was having trouble. Howe also said, “[It was] just a bit of fatigue” when asked why Hall was replaced.
However, The Magpies missed the chance to get back into the top seven because they didn’t take enough chances in the second half.
