Reason why Kilmarnock coach Stuart Kettlewell was given a red card during their 3- 0 match defeat against Rangers

Kilmarnock manager Stuart Kettlewell was left visibly furious after being shown a red card during their 3–0 home defeat to Rangers.

Referee Kevin Clancy dismissed Kettlewell while Killie were 2–0 down, following an incident in which the manager kicked a water bottle near the technical area in frustration.

Assistant coach Stephen Frail had to intervene, guiding Kettlewell toward the tunnel as he continued shouting at the referee.

Kettlewell is no stranger to openly expressing his displeasure with officials. Earlier this season, following a VAR-awarded penalty to Celtic at Rugby Park, he publicly questioned refereeing decisions, demanding clarity on the rules and voicing his frustration at perceived inconsistencies. At the time, he said:

“I need a question answered… we spend all this time talking about rules… if it ricochets from half a yard between two players, and it hits somebody’s hand, they’re not going to give a penalty? Somebody will need to tell me why that’s given.”

During the Rangers match, Mikey Moore added a third goal ten minutes after Bojan Miovski’s second, sealing the 3–0 result. Kettlewell’s side has struggled this season, remaining winless since early October and sitting tenth in the league, only above the relegation playoff spot on goal difference.

The manager remains under pressure as he battles to turn results around while maintaining his outspoken approach to refereeing decisions.
