Reason why Manchester City 22-year-old defender Josko Gvardiol did not take Man City’s penalty during their match vs Fulham
Josko Gvardiol played very well as a defender for Manchester City as the Blues beat Fulham 4-0 to go back to the top of the Premier League.
Man of the match for Manchester City, Josko Gvardiol, said he would have liked to take the penalty to make it a hat-trick and gave a reason why he didn’t.
At Craven Cottage, Gvardiol played very well as the Blues easily beat Fulham 4-0. In the first half, the Croatian scored the first goal by dribbling the ball past Bernd Leno after a great one-two with Kevin De Bruyne.
With 30 minutes left in the second half, Phil Foden scored the second goal with a calm finish, which set off a chain of goals. At the 10 minute mark, Gvardiol scored his second goal of the game by skillfully avoiding being offside and latching on to Bernardo Silva’s cross to the back post.
Many people thought he would get the chance to score a hat trick in extra time, when Issa Diop fouled Julian Alvarez in the penalty area and was sent off for a second yellow card. The 22-year-old was asked by City’s players if he wanted to take the penalty kick, but he said no.
He instead got back up and scored the fourth goal with one of the last kicks of the game. TNT Sports asked Gvardiol at the end of the game if he was tempted to take the penalty.
“Another two goals, happy,” he replied. Yes, a clean sheet, and I’m also happy.
“We talked about me getting the punishment, and of course I want to do it.” We know who the taker is, though, and he does take. It was Julian, and I’m glad he scored.
The Blues are back on top of the Premier League after beating City. On Sunday, Arsenal will go to Manchester United and play there.
