Reason why Manchester City was defeated by Real Madrid in the Champions League Quarter-finals match
They were eliminated from the Champions League by Real Madrid. City was eliminated.
After Real Madrid defeated Manchester City in a dramatic shootout in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, fans of Manchester City have expressed their anger at a specific individual.
On Wednesday night, the victor of the competition for the fourteenth time, Madrid, removed the reigning champions, City, from the competition.
Following a really interesting 180 minutes of football plus extra time, the Spanish team emerged victorious on penalties with a score of 4-3 after the match ended with a score of 4-4.
After the thrilling 3-3 draw that took place in Spain the previous week, the tie was in a very good position going into the second leg that was going to take place at the Etihad Stadium.
The La Liga team took the lead with an early goal in Manchester, which was scored by Rodrygo. However, Kevin De Bruyne, a prominent player for City, equalized the score in the second half, which resulted in the match going into extra time.
Both teams were unable to find a way to win the game during the extra period, which resulted in the match being decided by penalties.
After Luka Modric failed to convert Madrid’s first penalty kick, which was followed by a successful penalty kick from Julian Alvarez, Bernardo Silva had the opportunity to put City ahead by two goals in the shootout but failed to do so.
However, the Portugal international was forced to wait because a fan in the home end refused to return the ball, which Modric had kicked into the crowd in an attempt to vent his fury.
Following a period of time spent waiting, the ball was eventually re-thrown onto the actual playing field.
Silva, however, appeared to be dissuaded by the delay, as he fired a shot that went straight into the arms of Andriy Lunin, the goalkeeper for Real Madrid.
After that, Mateo Kovacic failed to convert the subsequent penalty for City, which gave Madrid the upper hand in the shootout. Antonio Rudiger went on to score the game-winning penalty for the away team, ensuring that they would end up with a historic victory away from home.
The supporter who forced Silva to wait to take his penalty was quickly criticized by City supporters, who were ready to express their disgust.
“Very City of our own fans to hold on to the ball for ages so Bernardo over thought it,” a fan posted on the website X.
Congratulations are in order for the jerk of a supporter who iced Bernardo by not returning the ball into play. Someone else chimed up, “Genius.”
“That City fan who held onto the ball before the Bernardo Silva penalty is definitely up for prat of the week,” a third individual wrote.
It was also said by a fan of the other team that “City fans caused it, what happened to the ball, and why was there no other balls around.”
