Reason why Phil Foden was substituted for Oscar Bobb during Manchester city vs Aston villa (4-1)
With a big win over Aston Villa at Etihad Stadium, Phil Foden scored a stunning hat-trick to keep Manchester City’s pressure on Premier League title rivals Arsenal and Liverpool.
Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne were left on the bench by manager Pep Guardiola after Sunday’s dull draw with Arsenal. However, the defending champions still had too much for Villa, who lost goalie Emiliano Martinez to illness just before the game.
While they were away, Foden scored 21 goals, making him the league’s top scorer. Rodri scored the first goal for City after 11 minutes, heading in Jeremy Doku’s cross at the near post.
Villa was dangerous on the break, and they tied the game nine minutes later when Jhon Duran scored a low goal after a nice pass from Morgan Rogers.
Foden then took over and gave City the lead again with a low free kick from 20 yards out right before halftime. However, Nicolo Zaniolo of Villa played his part by turning his back to the wall.
After good work by Rodri, Foden made it 2-0 to City after 62 minutes by firing low past Villa’s backup goalkeeper Robin Olsen. Seven minutes later, he scored his third goal with a beautiful shot into the top corner from the edge of the area.
And in extra time in the second half, City almost scored a fifth goal when Sergio Gomez hit Josko Gvardiol’s cut-back with his side foot.
Since City won, they are now tied with Liverpool in points. Liverpool plays Sheffield United at Anfield on Thursday night, and City is now a point behind them. Arsenal is now in first place after beating Luton Town.
Phil Foden was substituted obviously because he had made his impact on the match scoring the most goals and for the player to rest and to avoid injuries since most eyes was on him
