Lampard and Mousinho Clash on Touchline as Coventry Beat Portsmouth
Frank Lampard and John Mousinho were caught up in a heated touchline exchange during Coventry City’s 2-1 win over Portsmouth in their Championship encounter at Fratton Park.
The tension flared midway through the first half after Portsmouth appealed for a penalty that was waved away by referee Gavin Ward, leaving the score level at 0-0. The decision sparked a war of words between both managers, who were seen arguing animatedly on the sidelines.
Pompey boss Mousinho appeared to direct his frustration at fourth official Stephen Martin, prompting a sharp response from Lampard. The pair had to be separated as the argument dragged on, with onlookers describing it as a “lengthy spat.”
Minutes later, Coventry took the lead through Brandon Thomas-Asante, who turned home an Ellis Simms header from a corner in the 30th minute. The duo linked up again early in the second half, with Simms threading a precise through ball for Thomas-Asante to double the advantage.
Portsmouth pulled one back deep into stoppage time through Makenzie Kirk, but it proved only a consolation as Coventry held on to extend their unbeaten start to the season.
The result keeps Lampard’s Sky Blues top of the Championship table, four points clear of Middlesbrough, after scoring an impressive 34 goals in 11 matches while conceding just eight.
Speaking after the game, Lampard praised his team’s display:
“It was a really good three points. This is a tough place to come — Portsmouth beat Middlesbrough here, and we knew how difficult it would be. The lads implemented the game plan perfectly after a quick turnaround. I’m really proud of them; it was a great night for us.”
