REVEALED: How Manchester United can still qualify for UEFA Champions League if they finish 6th position in the Premier League Table
Europe may feel like it’s getting farther away from Manchester United fans again, which is something they’ve seen far too often in the last few years.
Right now, Erik Ten Hag’s team is sixth in the league, 11 points behind both fourth-placed Tottenham and fifth-placed Aston Villa.
It’s getting harder and harder for them to catch up to their rivals.
United hasn’t won any of their last three league games, and with seven games left, they’re beginning to look less likely to finish in the top four.
Even so, they might still make it to the Champions League by some miracle, even if Manchester United finish sixth because of a change in UEFA rules.
Because UEFA added a new rule this year, England are likely to get an extra spot in next year’s Champions League.
For the first time ever, two leagues will get an extra spot in the Champions League, which is Europe’s top club tournament.
The new rule says that the two leagues with the highest UEFA coefficients will get an extra spot in the competition.
England and Italy are likely to get the top two spots right now.
This means that the fifth-placed team in the Premier League will automatically qualify for the Champions League. However, this is expected to help either Tottenham or Aston Villa.
But Man United still has a small chance of making it to the Champions League, even if they don’t finish fifth but instead sixth.
But a lot of things need to go their way for this to happen. This is how the rest of the season would have to go.
Former United manager David Moyes and his new team, West Ham, have a lot to do with whether United makes it to the Champions League or not.
The Hammers would be ready to play in the Champions League next season if they finish in fifth place and win the Europa League. United would finish in sixth place.
David Moyes’s team is 12 points behind Villa in fifth place and only one point behind United in seventh.
It won’t be easy for the Hammers to win the Europa League and finish in fifth place. If they do, though, it would open up another spot in the Champions League for an English team.
Since the extra spot is only given for finishing in the top three of a local league, it doesn’t count for winners of the Champions League or the Europa League.
There is a chance that United could qualify for next year’s European tournament if both the Champions League and Europa League winners are English teams that finish outside of the top four in the Premier League. They would only need to finish in seventh place.
This season, though, that won’t be possible because Manchester City and Arsenal, the only two teams still in the Champions League, are almost certain to finish in the top four.
Ten Hag’s team would then have to hope that West Ham can get ahead of both them and either Aston Villa or Tottenham.
Anyhow, David Moyes’ team still has a big task ahead of them in the Europa League. They will be playing Bayer Leverkusen, who hasn’t lost a Bundesliga game all season and is on a roll towards the title.
