REVEALED: The one way Celtic F.C can show Denmark national team coach Kasper Hjulmand that he was wrong for the omission of Matt O’Riley from his squad for the EURO 2024
The news has been mostly about how Celtic player Matt O’Riley was turned down by the Denmark national team manager for the past week or so.
Kasper Hjulmand left Celtic’s Player of the Year out of his team for Euro 2024, which made many former Danish players and football experts very upset.
O’Riley has had an amazing season under Brendan Rodgers. In 49 games, he has helped score 19 goals and set up 18 others in Rodgers’ first season back at the club.
Since O’Riley had just won both the league and the Scottish Cup, there were great hopes that he would be on Denmark’s plane to Germany with the Euro 2024 team.
Before the team was named, Hjulmand seemed to make fun of the quality of Scottish football when he told the Daily Record, “You have to look at how the Scottish league compares to the Superliga, the Bundesliga, or Spain.”
“Yes, we are well aware of that.” There are always things to think about.
Now that I think about it, Hjulmand’s words sound like he was getting O’Riley ready for the worst.
The Celtic player looks like he will have a long summer break. Peter Grant has told Celtic that they can do one thing to show the Denmark manager that he was wrong to turn down the 23-year-old and say bad things about our game.
Champions League success will “show” Hjulmand he is wrong.
This might seem like a no-brainer since O’Riley played so well in the Champions League last year, but Grant thinks that if Celtic play a Danish team in the tournament, beating them would make the Denmark manager very unhappy with his choice.
Grant said on the Scottish Football Podcast, “There’s a level of team we should give them trouble.”
When we talk about Danish teams, I think we should beat them, and I don’t mean that in a bad way.
“Because I know that the boy [Kasper Hjulmand] made fun of Matt O’Riley for not being picked for the Danish team and saying that he didn’t like Scottish football.”
“I want to show that you’re wrong.”
“You know, so when teams like that come in, I think Celtic should beat them because they’re on the same level as us.”
O’Riley will definitely play for Denmark at some point. What he has is something that can’t be denied. No one, not even Hjulmand.
Even though O’Riley is ready to go, there are still questions about whether the smooth midfielder will make the Danes’ Euro squad.
Hjulmand will be hoping that his team makes it to the next round of the competition. If they don’t, he may feel bad about leaving O’Riley back in Scotland this summer.
