Robbie Savage has reacted to reports suggesting he could take over as Blackburn Rovers manager

Robbie Savage responds to Blackburn Rovers managerial links

Robbie Savage has addressed speculation linking him to the managerial vacancy at Blackburn Rovers.

Currently, Savage is the head coach at National League side Forest Green Rovers, a role he took on last summer.

He is focused on guiding the club back to League Two after their play-off disappointment last season. Meanwhile, Blackburn are concentrating on avoiding relegation from the Championship, sitting just above the drop zone.

Savage, who played for Blackburn between 2005 and 2008, responded to the rumors on social media with a simple post on X featuring a facepalm and crying-laughing emoji.

The post came ahead of his scheduled press conference on Thursday, where he is expected to address questions about the Rovers job.

This is Savage’s second managerial role, following a stint at Macclesfield, and he has earned praise for his work at non-league level. While speculation continues about a possible move to the Championship, his response suggests he is focused on promotion with Forest Green Rovers rather than leaving for Blackburn.

Blackburn’s previous manager, Ismael, was dismissed last weekend after a 1-0 loss left the club inside the relegation zone.

However, a 1-0 victory against Sheffield Wednesday lifted Blackburn to 21st. The team now faces a trip to 19th-placed Norwich City on 7 February, with a 12:31 pm kick-off.

A move for Savage would certainly be a bold and risky appointment for Blackburn, considering the jump from the fifth tier to the Championship.

While his past connection to the club explains the speculation, Savage appears content to continue his work in the National League for the time being.
