Rodgers expresses disappointment with Celtic’s passive performance, describing it as “truly unsatisfactory.”
Irritated Brendan Rodgers criticised Celtic for their “passive” performance during the second half of the match against Dundee.
The hosts at Dens Park exhibited remarkable resilience by overcoming a two-goal deficit on two occasions, demonstrating significant determination to challenge Celtic further after equalising at 2-2 just nine minutes into the second half.
Aaron Donnelly of Dundee seemingly secured victory in the 78th minute; however, the match took an unexpected turn as Celtic was granted a penalty in injury time due to an infringement by Mo Sylla. Arne Engels executed the penalty with precision, leaving no room for error.
“It was indeed disappointing regarding the final outcome,” Rodgers conveyed to Sky Sports, despite the draw increasing their advantage at the summit of the Scottish Premiership to 16 points. “I believed that during the initial 40 minutes, we exhibited a commendable level of comfort within the game.” We commenced with an excellent beginning, precisely as one would desire.
“Sometimes the problem is when you have so much of the ball, you can become a little bit passive with and without it. We concede just before half time and then in the second half I thought we were really disappointing. “One must acknowledge Dundee’s performance; they secured a goal just prior to halftime, which provided them with a renewed impetus for the second half.”
However, our performance in the second half was inadequate, and we must significantly improve in that regard. “We exhibited a passive demeanour and demonstrated a deficiency in aggression, both in our defensive efforts and in one-on-one confrontations.
Our passing was characterised by lateral and backward movements during possession, and our positioning was suboptimal.” “Please understand that we have persevered until the very conclusion, and we acknowledge the situation; however, we allowed a match that we dominated for 40 minutes to slip from our grasp.”
“One must acknowledge Dundee for their commendable effort in regaining their position in the match; however, upon reflection, it is evident that we must significantly improve our performance.”
