Rwanda severes diplomatic relations with Belgium and mandates that European diplomats depart within 48 hours.
Additionally, it issued a 48-hour deadline for all European diplomats to depart the nation. On Monday, the Rwandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International
Cooperation released a statement that disclosed this information. “During the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo,” Rwanda accused Belgium of “consistently” undermining Kigali. It further stated, “The Government of Rwanda has informed the Government of Belgium of its intention to terminate diplomatic relations with immediate effect.”
Consequently, Belgium declared that Rwandan diplomats were no longer permitted to remain in the country. Maxime Prevot, the Foreign Minister of Belgium, conveyed his regret regarding Rwanda’s decision in response.
According to Prevot, Rwanda’s decision indicates that it is unwilling to engage in dialogue following a disagreement. In a post on X, Prevot expressed his regret for Rwanda’s decision to terminate diplomatic relations with Belgium and declare Belgium’s diplomats persona non grata.
