Celtic’s Scottish Premiership loss to Dundee at Dens Park on Sunday was temporarily stopped after travelling supporters staged a coordinated protest against the club’s hierarchy by throwing balls onto the pitch.
Moments after kickoff, fans in the away end launched dozens of balls onto the field, forcing the referee to halt the game. Players and staff quickly cleared the pitch as chants of “Sack the board” rang out from the stands.
Several banners targeting the club’s leadership were also displayed, with the stoppage lasting around three minutes before play resumed.
The 2–0 defeat — Celtic’s first away loss to Dundee since 1988 — meant they missed the chance to close the gap on league leaders Hearts.
Clark Robertson opened the scoring for Dundee in the 17th minute with a header from a corner, before Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers turned the ball into his own net shortly before halftime.
Despite dominating possession after the break, Celtic couldn’t find a way through and suffered their first Premiership defeat of the season — and their first at Dens Park in 37 years, when Tommy Coyne scored the winner for the hosts.
The Hoops, booed off at full-time, remain five points adrift of Hearts, whom they face at Tynecastle next weekend. Before that, they’ll look to bounce back in their Europa League clash with Sturm Graz on Thursday, where a much-improved display will be needed.
