“SAD NEWS”: Ex-Detroit Lions defensive tackle (DT) has been banned for 10 games of the 2025 NFL season

Former Detroit Lions defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs has been issued a substantial suspension by the NFL, which will prevent him from participating in the first ten games of the 2025 season.

Since the Kansas City Chiefs released him in June 2024, Buggs, 29, has not played in the league. However, any potential return is currently on pause.

A Career Disrupted by Off-Field Challenges
Buggs, who was once a promising sixth-round choice out of Alabama, played three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers before joining the Lions. He was a key component of Dan Campbell’s rebuild in 2022 and 2023. He had a total of 56 games played over five NFL seasons, during which he recorded 89 tackles and 2 sacks.

However, his tenure in Detroit and beyond has been overshadowed by significant legal complications.

Buggs was sentenced to 60 days of hard labor in 2024 after being convicted of misdemeanor animal cruelty for leaving two canines unattended. In April, that conviction was subsequently reversed. In June 2024, he was also charged with domestic violence for allegedly forcibly dragging the mother of his child down the stairs after breaking into her home. As a result of that incarceration, Kansas City released him.

In the end, he reached a plea agreement, which resulted in the domestic violence allegation being reduced to criminal trespass.

Reasons for NFL Action
The NFL did not specify the incidents that resulted in Buggs’ 10-game suspension; however, a conviction is not required for discipline under the league’s personal conduct policy. If the league determines that a player’s actions have violated its standards, it has the authority to impose a penalty.

This decision is likely to result in Buggs’ tenure being terminated. It is difficult to envision a team investing in the veteran lineman after he has been absent from football for more than a year and is now facing a prolonged suspension.

In conclusion,
Isaiah Buggs’ football future is uncertain as a result of his suspension and legal disputes, which have resulted in him being ostracized from the Lions’ tenacious defensive line. The NFL’s most recent decision appears to be the conclusion of a career that was as much derailed off the field as it was on it.
