Salah’s remarks regarding the contract were considered selfish by Carragher.

According to Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool defender, Mohamed Salah’s decision to publicly express his disappointment at Liverpool’s refusal to extend him a new contract is “selfish.”

After Sunday’s victory over Southampton, Salah disclosed to reporters that he is “probably more out than in” and has not yet been extended new terms. His current contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the season.

The 32-year-old is Liverpool’s leading scorer this season, having scored 12 goals across all competitions. He scored twice against the Saints to propel the team eight points ahead at the summit of the Premier League.

“I must admit that I am extremely disappointed with Mo Salah,” Carragher stated during Monday Night Football on Sky Sports.

“Liverpool will play against Real Madrid in the Champions League this week and Manchester City at the weekend.” “That is the current narrative.” He further stated, “It is self-serving if he continues to publish comments and his agent issues cryptic messages.

” That individual is preoccupied with their own interests, rather than the football club. Salah’s remarks have not been publicly addressed by Liverpool.

However, a club source disclosed to BBC Sport that there is an ongoing positive relationship between Liverpool and Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa.

During an appearance on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club, Chris Sutton stated that Salah’s decision to engage in a conversation with correspondents in the mixed zone regarding his future indicates that he intends to remain at Anfield.

The former Blackburn and Chelsea striker stated,

“It was not one of those instances where Mo Salah was requested to speak; rather, he reached out to a few journalists to discuss his thoughts.” “So in that respect it says to me that he wants to stay.” Rory Smith of The Athletic commented:

“It strikes me that he is making it very clear to the Liverpool fans that he wants to stay and that if he doesn’t end up staying that it’s not really a lack of intent on his part.

“The issue will be his age. Liverpool is expected to examine the extensive data set you have on footballers from the past 20 to 30 years, which indicates that performance levels may decline in the mid-30s.

The question will arise as to whether it is worthwhile to allocate approximately £300,000 per week to an athlete who may only have one more year at this level.Perhaps he will have an additional two years at this level.

What about an additional five or six? “That is the risk Liverpool must take.” Defender Trent Alexander-Arnold and club captain Virgil van Dijk are also out of contract at the conclusion of the season, in addition to Salah.

“The most important thing for Liverpool Football Club this season isn’t the future of Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold,” commented Carragher.

“The most important thing is Liverpool winning the Premier League.”I trust they do not feel as though this club would disintegrate if they were to depart. The club’s subsequent manager secured the Premier League title after Steven Gerrard’s departure.

As a result of Graeme Souness’ departure, Liverpool secured the Double. “Would we miss him, Salah?” Of course, we would. Liverpool, however, will carry on.
