Saudi PIF plan to support Eddie Howe as new report outlines Newcastle’s position

Newcastle board maintain strong backing for Eddie Howe despite fan frustration

Newcastle United remain in the Champions League and could reach the last 16 if they overcome Qarabag across two legs. However, ongoing struggles away from home have left the Magpies sitting 11th in the Premier League, seven points adrift of the top five.

Following the latest defeat, frustration spilled over on social media, with some supporters questioning whether Eddie Howe’s four-and-a-half-year spell at St James’ Park could be nearing its end.

According to The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, however, the club’s leadership continues to show firm support for Howe. Senior figures are said to retain “unwavering backing” for the manager, and he is reportedly viewed as one of the safest bosses in the division.

While the upcoming run of fixtures could test patience, sporting director Ross Wilson and CEO David Hopkinson are understood to have full confidence in the 48-year-old.

The report claims Howe is nowhere near the sack, suggesting the campaign would have to unravel into a “complete and utter disaster” before his position even became a serious topic at boardroom level. Newcastle’s hierarchy reportedly see no reason to part ways with their most successful modern-era manager at the first sign of difficulty.

It is also noted that the club’s ownership anticipated a challenging season.

A disruptive summer left Newcastle playing catch-up at the start of the 2025/26 campaign, with the side adjusting after Alexander Isak’s departure, juggling four competitions with limited depth and experience, and dealing with a number of injuries.

The ownership group is said to prioritise stability and togetherness, aiming to avoid the short-term “hire and fire” approach common in modern football.

Instead, the plan is to shut out external noise and continue backing Howe, with transfer strategies already being shaped to support long-term growth.
