If Newcastle United can make a big move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, they won’t be making a “particularly smart signing.”
The Magpies were one of several teams interested in the England center-back after he played well for England in their run to the final of Euro 2024. They made a firm move earlier this week to sign the former Chelsea youth player. Reports say Newcastle’s first offer for Guehi was turned down, but they are expected to come back with a higher bid that will be over £60 million. This could be a threat to the club record £63 million deal that brought Alexander Isak to St. James’ Park just under two years ago. According to reports, Guehi is willing to move to Newcastle. If he does, it would be a big surprise for Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal, who have all been linked with the defender in recent months after he was one of England’s best players at the event in Germany.
If the deal goes through, it would also solve one of the most important problems the people in charge at St. James’s Park had during the summer transfer window.
