Back-to-back league wins have started to shift opinions about Rangers’ future under new manager Danny Rohl.
Russell Martin’s troubled stint came to an end after just 17 games earlier this month, paving the way for the German to take charge. Rangers had previously failed in attempts to bring back Steven Gerrard or appoint Kevin Muscat, but Rohl now seems to be steadying the ship.
After a disappointing European debut defeat to Brann, Rohl’s side bounced back with a 3–1 victory over Kilmarnock and a narrow 1–0 win against Hibernian on Wednesday—tripling their league win total in the process.
Danilo’s early goal sealed the points, and pundit Alan Brazil suggested that Rohl could be the right man for the job. “He might be alright, you know,” Brazil said. “I don’t know what kind of budget he’s working with, but he looks sharp and capable. From what I’ve heard, he knows what he’s doing—it’ll be interesting to see how it develops.”
It’s still early days, and while two wins don’t make a season, they mark clear progress after a dismal start. Climbing to third in the Premiership table hints at improvement, but the gap to the top remains wide.
League leaders Hearts dropped points for just the second time this campaign in a 2–2 draw with St. Mirren, while Brendan Rodgers’ exit at Celtic could open a door Rangers should have been better placed to exploit.
Celtic’s 4–0 win over Falkirk shows they may be regaining momentum, but Rohl now faces his first major test—a League Cup semi-final Old Firm derby on Sunday, where he’ll be eager to make a strong early statement.
