Scottish coach Mark Wilson explains the hidden reason why Brendan Rodgers wants Gustaf Lagerbielke to leave Celtic this summer window

Brendan Rodgers is still trying to add players to Celtic this summer, so the manager of the Hoops needs to get rid of a few players.

This week, a lot of talk has been going around about the Swedish goalkeeper Gustaf Lagerbielke.

The 24-year-old was bought for £3 million from Elfsborg last summer, but Brendan Rodgers has only used him ten times.

Mark Wilson is rumored to be leaving the club and thinks he knows why the Celtic manager doesn’t like the back.

Wilson: “Weak” Lagerbielke needs to leave Celtic.
The former Celtic defender was asked how he felt about Lagerbielke’s position at the club. He said that Lagerbielke has a lot of chances to shine, but he’s not doing enough in training to convince Rodgers that he can play for Celtic.

Wilson said to Superscoreboard, “You need to clear the decks.” I think that’s something that every good boss knows too.

“When the window opens this time, everyone is just focused on getting new players, but you can’t keep players on hand.”

“So you need to move these ones that are on the edges or just taking up room in the building.” That’s for sure what Lagerbielke is. It didn’t work for him.

“He had a good family history, and people thought he might be the answer.”

“But he did look weak, didn’t he?” He didn’t look big for a center back. He looked tense.

“I also believe Lagerbielke has had many chances to play for the team if he had shown what he could do in training.”

Welsh comes in from the side and goes right back out because he picks up bad things all the time. There was a spot for Lagerbielke, but Brendan Rodgers never felt safe putting him there.

“That tells you everything you need to know.”

Hereenveen is said to be the favorite to sign Lagerbielke on loan, so it looks like he will be leaving Celtic soon.

Which is too bad, because, as Wilson said, the Swede did have a history. People at Celtic would have had high hopes for Lagerbielke because he was Sweden’s Defender of the Year at Elfsborg before he went to Celtic.

But it wasn’t meant to be, and it will be best for both the man and Celtic if Lagerbielke is moved on as soon as possible.
