Scottish football coach Barry Ferguson reveals what he’s been told about potential Rangers vs Aberdeen postponement

Rangers and Aberdeen are battling against the elements as uncertainty grows over whether their Scottish Premiership clash on Tuesday evening will go ahead.

Rangers come into the fixture in buoyant mood after a convincing 3-1 victory over Celtic on Saturday. The result has lifted spirits around Ibrox, with Danny Röhl receiving widespread praise for turning around a season that had threatened to unravel.

The German coach has revitalised the Bears and pushed them back into contention for their first league title since the 2020–21 campaign.

Aberdeen are due to travel to Govan for what would be their first match since the dismissal of manager Jimmy Thelin, but former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson believes the visitors may struggle to even reach Glasgow.

Rangers vs Aberdeen at risk due to weather concerns

While there were initially no major concerns over the fixture, worsening weather conditions across Scotland have raised the possibility of a postponement. Snow and ice have made travel difficult in several areas, potentially impacting Aberdeen’s journey south.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show podcast on January 6, Ferguson revealed what he had been told regarding the situation.

“I heard on the way in that there are a few rumours Aberdeen might struggle to get out of the city,” he said. “So there’s a chance the match could be called off.”

With temperatures in Glasgow forecast to drop to around minus one degree Celsius, icy roads could make the 150-mile trip particularly challenging for the Dons. Any postponement would come as a frustration for Röhl, who is keen to maintain momentum following the weekend’s derby triumph.

Rangers eager to continue strong run against Aberdeen

Rangers will be desperate for the match to go ahead, not least because of their recent dominance over Aberdeen at Ibrox. The Light Blues have won their last four home league games against the Dons, including a comprehensive 4-0 victory in May.

Youssef Chermiti has delivered his most impressive performances since arriving in Govan and would relish the opportunity to test an Aberdeen defence low on confidence. Elsewhere, players such as Dujon Sterling and John Souttar are beginning to rediscover form after long injury absences.

In midfield, Nico Raskin and Connor Barron are developing into a strong partnership, further strengthening Röhl’s side at a crucial stage of the campaign.

Everything points towards Rangers being well placed to secure another victory and apply pressure on league leaders Hearts. However, should the fixture be postponed due to the weather, it would represent a significant setback for a team eager to keep their momentum rolling.
