Enough with all the pre-season talk! The Scottish Premiership starts in a few days, and Celtic is the clear favorite to win their fourth straight title.
On Sunday, Flag Day, Brendan Rodgers’ defending winners play Kilmarnock at Celtic Park. They hope to get their first three points of the season.
This summer has been good for the Boyz on the field but not so great off of it. The tour of the United States was a huge success, with three wins out of three. However, the club has still not signed a soccer player.
Behind the scenes, transfers are happening, but fans want to see the club actually make some moves to improve Rodgers’ team instead of just talking about it.
Still, Celtic is ready for challenges in Scotland, and many people think they will win the league title again next May.
Kenny Dalglish on Celtic’s goal to win the title
Celtic and Scotland great Kenny Dalglish is one of them. He thinks the Bhoys are the best team in the country and can’t see anyone else.
In his newspaper piece earlier this week, he said that he didn’t think the Rangers would be able to win the championship.
Dalglish told the Sunday Post, “Ibrox is getting a lot of attention, and most of it is bad.” It’s still not clear when the renovations will be done inside the stadium and when the teams will be able to play their games there again.
“They need to make the team stronger on the field.” It doesn’t look like Philippe Clement has the skills and experience to beat Celtic over 38 games right now.
“They have to play against a strong Celtic team, and we all think that Parkhead will have an even stronger team by the end of the transfer window next month.” Brendan Rodgers will know exactly who he wants to bring in and who he wants to let go.
“I don’t see any reason why Celtic won’t win four titles in a row. They will be hard to beat.” While they did have a few shaky games last season, they won when it counted and beat the Rangers when it was time. “That’s the mark of a winner.”
Celtic shouldn’t get too comfortable, but they deserve to be called favorites.
Everyone at Celtic knows that paper doesn’t win medals. Both teams need to be willing to give up things, work hard, be a team, and be really good at what they do.
As was already said, the transfer process has been frustratingly slow, and the search and negotiation staff needs to work hard this month to get Rodgers’ team ready for an attack on four competitions.
There are flaws and not enough complexity right now. As long as that is the case, no one should get too excited about Celtic’s chances to win the league again.
Of course, calling them favorites is fair, but it’s up to the club to show that they are still the best in every way.
