Scottish former footballer Ally McCoist reveals the reason why Rangers was openly defeated by Celtic Fc in their last match (3-0)
There is still a lot of talk about the Glasgow Derby after Celtic easily beat Rangers on Sunday.
Martin O’Neill responded to Souness’s words this morning by saying that there is a “chasm” between Celtic and Rangers right now.
Next up is Ally McCoist, a former striker for Rangers who says Celtic are doing something “excellent” that Rangers can’t figure out.
McCoist: “Celtic has done a great job of hiring.”
Yesterday, McCoist said he was devastated by Celtic’s loss. Today, he seemed even worse as he talked about how Celtic’s hiring process was different from Rangers’.
I see Graeme’s point, but the most important thing, or one of the most important things, is recruiting.” Celtic has done a great job of hiring people.
“Rangers hasn’t been that at all. No matter how much money you have—£1 million or £40 million—you need to get it right most of the time. That’s not what the Rangers have done.
“Rangers gave money to Michael Beale before the game. I’m not sure how much he got, but I don’t think it was spent as wisely as it should have been.” It’s not been spent as well as it should have been.
“I mean, look at how Celtic makes hires.” I think Brendan has brought in four or five players for Celtic this window for, let’s say, £30 million. He’s already spent £28 million on Matt O’Riley.
“So he doesn’t spend any money, and they’re getting good players, which is a huge deal.”
“Like I said, it’s clear they’re spending more, which makes sense since they have more.” The steps must stay the same, though.
“The people you hire have to be good, but Rangers’ haven’t been.”
Celtic’s way of moving players
Celtic’s player-trading approach is an important part of their business plan and has helped them stay financially stable.
Celtic has been able to put money into the first team thanks to their ability to buy players with promise and then sell them for a huge profit.
While there have been some mistakes, the money that Celtic has been able to get for players like Matt O’Riley, Jota, and Moussa Dembele more than makes up for them.
In fact, getting to play in the Champions League group stages and getting deals with Adidas for gear has helped, but Celtic’s recruitment plan has been miles ahead of other Scottish clubs, and it will stay that way for a while.
