Scottish professional football manager David Moyes delivers his verdict on how is a better footballer between Arsenal player Declan Rice and Manchester City midfielder Rodri
David Moyes has been a manager in the Premier League for more than twenty years, so he has seen some of the best players ever play in England.
Moyes has played Manchester City a lot of times while at Everton, Manchester United, and West Ham United.
It goes without saying that the Scot knows more than most about their ability over the years.
For example, David Moyes was asked if Phil Foden was playing well enough to stay on the field during England’s 1-0 win over Serbia. Foden was called a “terrific player” and the question was called “ridiculous.”
Foden has scored four goals against Moyes’ West Ham team, including two great goals in City’s most recent Premier League title win in Moyes’s last game in charge of the club.
During the European Championship, the Glaswegian’s defense of the much-maligned Englishman showed how opposing managers see certain players differently from how the public does.
At the same time, David Moyes has also handled a lot of great players.
David Moyes says Declan Rice needs “a lot of work” to be as good as the Man City star.
Wayne Rooney is the name that stands out.
Not long ago, Moyes worked with Declan Rice and helped him become one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.
The former Preston North End manager also put Rice in charge of West Ham’s first team in 2015.
The England player was also given the honor of taking over as Hammers captain from the retired Mark Noble in the 2022–2023 season by David Moyes.
Because of this, Moyes is the only coach who really knows what a great player the Arsenal midfielder is.
But even David Moyes has said that Rice still needs to work on a lot of things to be as good as Rodri, who we often compare him to.
“He’s still got a lot to be maybe, Rodri,” he told the Up Front show. At the moment, Rodri is huge. However, I believe Dec is also able to do that. People shouldn’t forget that he’s still young, though.
Even the legendary Paul Merson of Arsenal said in July that Rodri is a better holding midfielder than Rice.
Cesc Fabregas, the former star midfielder, also said that the £62.5 million man is better than the winner of the UEFA Europa Conference League “right now.”
David Moyes’s decision to let Declan Rice go shows how good Rodri is.
When it comes to which number six he likes better, David Moyes would have been right to choose Rice over Rodri, since Rice helped him so much during his great time at West Ham.
But Moyes seems to have forgotten how much he liked the 25-year-old in order to understand how great the Manchester City midfielder was.
The veteran also knows more than most about how to improve Rice’s game because he has worked with him for eight years.
David Moyes thinks that Rodri is still the better player right now, even though the Englishman has done well since moving from West Ham to Arsenal.
If Rice finds out that his old boss admitted something, it might motivate him to get even better as a player.
As for Rodri, he might like it if Moyes praised him for being the force of nature that he is.
