Callum McGregor is likely the first player at Celtic that you see on the team sheet. Any coach, from Ange Postecoglou to Brendan Rodgers, can use McGregor.
He is just as important to the team as anyone else. So, one of Celtic’s most prestigious players is taking on the role of leader, and he hopes he still has many years to go.
At 32 years old, McGregor knows that his best years are almost over. Luckily, he quit playing for Scotland to try to make those years last longer.
“All of us have played with players who set a great example every day,” Boyd said about McGregor. “That probably means training right, coming in first, and leaving the building last.” He is doing everything right, which lets him work at the highest level every week. For me, it would be Callum McGregor right now, and I know that people would ask, “What are you talking about?” However, his body is set to play three games a week, which he has done.
It’s clear that he’s moved away from Scotland now. “He will have to get used to having those long breaks.” Because he has played so many games, that can cause trouble on its own sometimes. With players like Scott Brown, I’m sure Brendan Rodgers hopes it has the opposite effect.
As Eilidh Barbour put it, “He has scored more goals since he stopped playing for Scotland.” Boyd: “I was about to go there.” These days, you have to think about how his game has changed in other ways. I believe that’s because of teams playing Celtic.
