Shedeur Sanders’ response to his elimination from the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft is as follows: “We all did not anticipate this.”

In Lambeau Field, the quarterback of Colorado did not hear his name mentioned during any of the 32 selections. He will now be the third passer selected in the draft, following the first overall choice,

Cam Ward of Miami, and the 25th overall pick, Jaxson Dart of Ole Miss. Sanders’ stock had been rumored to be declining prior to the draft, but it was still a surprise, as there had been frequent speculation that he could be selected by the New York Giants as early as third overall.

However, the Giants instead selected Dart after trading back into the first round. Sanders, his father Deion Sanders, and his sibling Deion Sanders Jr., chose to observe the draft from their residence in Texas, rather than being present in Green Bay. Following the initial round, the elder Sanders shared a eulogy from his son, in which he acknowledged that the events did not unfold as anticipated.

However, he declared that he would not be disheartened.Sanders has emerged as one of the most prominent names in the initial round; however, the absence of any team jumping back into the first round to acquire him is a cause for concern. The team that drafts Sanders will not receive a fifth-year option on his rookie contract if he falls to the second round.

This is a difficult situation for the team to reconcile, as they are unable to give up minor draft capital in exchange for an additional year of control over their potential franchise quarterback. Additionally, the team believes that Sanders is a potential franchise quarterback. For precisely this reason, the Baltimore Ravens executed a trade to acquire Lamar Jackson at the 32nd overall pick.
