Sheffield United coach Chris Wilder gave his painful assessment after Sheffield United 3-1 defeat by Derby County.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder shared his thoughts with BBC Radio Sheffield following his side’s 3-1 defeat to Derby County on Saturday.

“We’re our own worst enemies right now,” Wilder admitted. “At half-time, the game was shaping up exactly how we expected – Derby looking to hit us on the counter, playing into and off Carlton Morris. That’s their style, and to be fair, I’d rather be in their dugout tonight than ours.”

The Blades boss expressed frustration at how easily Derby were able to score.

“They didn’t have to work too hard for any of their goals,” he said. “We never seem to get those sorts of chances – a free header from six yards, or the kind of clear-cut opportunity Morris had for his second. And as for the penalty decision, it would be nice if something went our way for a change.”

Wilder urged his players to stay determined despite recent setbacks.

“We’ve got to pick ourselves up, keep pushing, and work even harder during the week,” he continued. “We’re not far off from winning games and becoming the team we want to be, but results from the last two matches have definitely been a step backward.”
