Sheffield United handed two major positives as Chris Wilder escapes a potential suspension setback

Chris Wilder will have two key Sheffield United players available for the midweek showdown with Norwich City at Bramall Lane.

Sydie Peck and Gustavo Hamer are both free to feature in Tuesday night’s Championship fixture after steering clear of bookings during Saturday’s 4–0 victory over Stoke City.

The pair entered the match on four yellow cards each, meaning another caution would have triggered an automatic one-game suspension under EFL rules. Any player who reaches five yellow cards within the first 19 league games must serve a ban, placing both midfielders on thin ice heading into the meeting with the Potters.

However, with the Stoke fixture marking United’s 19th league match of the season — and neither player being booked — both Peck and Hamer have moved past the cut-off point without incident.

No member of Wilder’s squad is now at risk of a one-game suspension for accumulating five cautions.

Hamer picked up his four yellow cards within the opening six matches, leaving him in a vulnerable position before and after the knee injury that sidelined him for six games.

The 28-year-old returned to the starting lineup against Stoke and celebrated the occasion by setting up Mark McGuinness for the opener.

Peck — who netted for the third straight match by converting a second-half penalty — had been in danger of a ban since receiving his fourth booking in the 3–1 win at Blackburn Rovers on October 21.

Successfully avoiding referee Stephen Martin’s book on Saturday now ensures he stays available.

Their clean disciplinary slate comes as a welcome boost for Wilder, who is expected to rotate his squad to deal with a demanding schedule.

After hosting Norwich on Tuesday, Sheffield United are back in action on Friday night with a trip to West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.
