Sheffield Wednesday administrators set asking price for Svante Ingelsson amid Portsmouth interest

Several players could be set to leave Sheffield Wednesday before the transfer window closes as the club’s financial troubles continue to worsen both on and off the pitch.

Owls supporters have already been dealt a major blow with the expected exit of long-serving captain Barry Bannan. The midfielder is poised to join Millwall, bringing an emotional end to a 10-year spell at Hillsborough. Bannan appeared to say goodbye to travelling fans during Saturday’s 2–0 defeat at Bristol City — his 477th and final appearance for the club.

Defender Yan Valery is another player who could be heading for the exit, with reports suggesting interest from Wrexham and Danny Röhl’s Rangers as Wednesday look to raise funds through player sales while the club remains in administration ahead of James Bord’s proposed takeover.

Young striker Bailey Cadamarteri is also attracting significant attention, with clubs including Blackburn Rovers, Charlton Athletic, Millwall, Stoke City and Swansea City all credited with interest. The academy graduate could reportedly command a fee of between £750,000 and £1 million.

Svante Ingelsson has now emerged as the latest name linked with a move away, with relegation-threatened Portsmouth said to be keen on the Swedish midfielder as the January window enters its final stages.

Sheffield Wednesday set Ingelsson asking price amid Portsmouth interest

According to a report from journalist Alan Nixon, writing via his Patreon service, Sheffield Wednesday’s administrators have placed a valuation of around £500,000 on Ingelsson. The 27-year-old has attracted multiple approaches this month, with Portsmouth believed to be leading the race, while other Championship clubs are also monitoring his situation.

Ingelsson joined Wednesday on a free transfer in the summer of 2024 after leaving Hansa Rostock. Although his current deal expires at the end of the season, the club are understood to hold an option to extend his contract by a further year.

The midfielder played a key role during his debut campaign, starting 19 of 35 matches as the Owls finished 12th under Röhl. This season, following a major squad overhaul, Ingelsson has been a near ever-present, starting all but one of Wednesday’s 28 Championship fixtures.

Henrik Pedersen responds to transfer speculation

Head coach Henrik Pedersen has acknowledged the growing interest in Ingelsson and other players, confirming that at least one bid for the midfielder has already been rejected. Speaking after the loss at Ashton Gate, Pedersen explained that the offer did not meet the club’s valuation.

Pedersen also revealed that teenager Yisa Alao is close to leaving the club, with the 16-year-old prospect widely reported to be nearing a move to Chelsea.

“There is general interest in many of our players,” Pedersen said. “Something will likely happen soon with Yisa. As for Svante, we turned down a bid because he is worth much more than that. We’re not currently forced to sell, and of course I want to keep as many players as possible.”
