Shock manager sacking could change Celtic’s plans

Manager sacking that could have implications for Celtic transfer plans

Eintracht Frankfurt have dismissed head coach Dino Toppmöller with immediate effect, according to reports from Sky Sports Germany – a development that could have a knock-on effect on Celtic’s January transfer business.

The Bundesliga side had been aware of Celtic’s interest in centre-back Aurèle Amenda, with the Scottish champions understood to be preparing a loan offer for the 22-year-old defender. Reports suggested Frankfurt were open to discussions and expected a formal approach from Parkhead.

However, Toppmöller’s departure now introduces uncertainty into those plans.

With a new manager set to be appointed, Frankfurt’s short-term priorities – particularly in defence – may change.

It is common for incoming coaches to reassess squad depth and halt potential loan exits while they evaluate their options, especially when it comes to young players like Amenda.

As a result, any prospective move to Celtic could be delayed, reshaped or even shelved altogether until Frankfurt’s new head coach has fully assessed the squad.

A successful deal for Amenda may also have had a domino effect at Parkhead, potentially allowing Stephen Welsh to return to Motherwell on loan as Celtic adjusted their defensive options for the second half of the season.

With Frankfurt now in a period of transition, Celtic will be monitoring the situation closely.

Managerial changes often slow transfer negotiations, and the Hoops may be forced to either wait for clarity in Germany or explore alternative defensive targets before the window closes.

For now, Celtic may have to stick with their current options – including Welsh – unless the situation at Frankfurt settles quickly.
