Union Saint-Gilloise v Newcastle United: Travelling squad revealed
Newcastle United have confirmed their travelling squad for Wednesday evening’s Champions League tie against Union Saint-Gilloise (kick-off 5:45pm).
Eddie Howe’s side are looking to respond after their opening group defeat to Barcelona at St James’ Park and secure a first away win – and away goal – of the season. Standing in their way is Belgian champions Union SG, who opened their campaign with an impressive 3-1 victory at PSV Eindhoven.
On Tuesday night, the Newcastle squad arrived at Lotto Park, Anderlecht’s home ground, for a light training session and media duties. Howe provided an update in his press conference, confirming that aside from Tino Livramento’s knee injury sustained against Arsenal, the squad is in good shape. He added that the club is awaiting further medical feedback on the defender.
Yoane Wissa and Jacob Ramsey also miss out through injury, while Jamaal Lascelles, Harrison Ashby and John Ruddy were not included as they were left out of the club’s official Champions League squad. Mark Gillespie travelled with the group but is ineligible for selection.
With UEFA squad restrictions limiting Newcastle to 21 registered players, a number of younger names are instead listed on ‘List B’ and available for the matchday squad.
