Manchester City
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson reveals the team that is much better between Manchester City and Real Madrid and states reason why
There have been a lot of games between Manchester City and Real Madrid in the last few years.
To be more specific, Pep Guardiola’s team has played the Spanish club three times in the Champions League.
City has won two, tied three, and lost one of their last six games in this time frame.
The Blues and Real Madrid tied 3-3 in the first leg of last year’s Champions League quarterfinal.
Then, in the second game at the Etihad Stadium, the score was tied at 1-1 after extra time. Carlo Ancelotti’s team won on penalties to move on to the semi-finals.
This was the 15th time in the club’s history that they had won the Champions League. They beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at Wembley Stadium, coming from behind to win.
Now, though, a commentator has made a claim about Real and how they relate to City.
He talks about which of Man City and Real Madrid he thinks is better.
Merson said this about City’s games against Real in the Champions League last season on a recent episode of Football’s Greatest.
“Let’s not fool ourselves, I know Real Madrid won the Champions League,” he said. Man City blew them away completely. I meant to kill them. I mean, it made me cringe.
“Real Madrid isn’t even close to Man City, so you can’t tell me they’re the best team in Europe.”
Last season, City beat Real.
In April, City and Real played to a 3-3 tie. The Blues had 62% of the ball and more shots on goal (6 vs. 5) than the home team.
Then, in the second half match at the Etihad, City had 33 shots on goal and 67% of the ball at the end of the 120 minutes.
