Joe Aribo remains out of Southampton’s matchday squad as the Championship season gathers pace, with boss Will Still revealing the midfielder is still short of the required sharpness.
Speaking ahead of the clash with Swansea City, Still explained that the 29-year-old missed a large part of pre-season and “hasn’t yet done enough in training to earn his place.”
Aribo, who made 37 appearances and scored three goals last term, has yet to feature competitively this campaign. With the January transfer window on the horizon, the Nigerian international could be facing a key period to either regain fitness or consider a move for more playing time.
Still added, “They’re still with us, but they’ve missed a whole chunk of pre-season. We’ve got to be fair and honest with everyone — sometimes tough calls have to be made.”
