Newcastle United
Sport journalist Fabrizio Romano reveals the reason why both Tosin Adarabioyo and Lloyd Kelly will sign the move to Newcastle United this summer instead of Chelsea and Manchester United
New talk about transfers from St. James Park as Newcastle United get ready for a busy summer of signings.
Newcastle United is still on track to enjoy a double-free transfer window to begin their plans to hire players this summer.
The Magpies were always going to try to add a center-back to Eddie Howe’s team during the off-season, but major injuries to Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman have made the people in charge at St. James Park rethink their plans.
After getting hurt badly in the 4-3 win over West Ham United in March, Lascelles, the club captain, probably won’t be able to play again until the end of the year. Botman, who hurt his anterior cruciate ligament in the FA Cup loss to Manchester City the week before, is also likely to be out for a similar amount of time.
Because of those injuries, Dan Burn had to play his natural spot as a center back for the rest of the season. He teamed up with Fabian Schar for most of the last two months of the season.
Newcastle almost made it into European competition next season, but Emil Krafth had to fill in as a center back in case of an emergency. But the Magpies are now trying to find more long-term answers to the problems at the heart of their defense because they want to reach two long-term goals.
Tosin Adarabioyo of Fulham and Lloyd Kelly of Bournemouth are both set to leave their clubs next month, when their contracts are up. Both players have been in talks with Newcastle, who is thought to be sure that they can get both players and avoid interest from other teams.
Adarabioyo is said to have been offered contracts by Chelsea and Manchester United after doing well for Fulham this season. Kelly is also said to be being watched by several clubs before he leaves the Vitality Stadium, with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur both reportedly interested in the defender.
Transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano made some big claims about the race to sign both players. He said the Magpies are still “favorites” to beat Chelsea and Manchester United’s offers for Adarabiayo and that Kelly will “100% be a Newcastle player” by the start of next season.
He said this on The Debrief Podcast: “First of all, it’s an open situation.” Newcastle is still my favorite because they began working on the deal in March. For Tosin, talks are still going on, but I think Newcastle will win. Chelsea has been interested in Tosin since the last week of March, and they know a lot about him.
“I don’t know of any progress with Chelsea.” I don’t think Chelsea has made up their mind yet; I think the situation is still pretty open since Newcastle wants it to happen. Newcastle wants both Tosin and Lloyd Kelly. I do believe that Lloyd Kelly will join Newcastle during the summer transfer window.
