Fabrizio Romano, an expert on transfer news, says that Robert Lewandowski turned down big offers to move to the Saudi Pro League because he only ever wanted to stay at Barcelona.
Since about ten years ago, the Poland international has been one of the best players in world football. At this point in his career, it would have been easy to understand why he chose to take one last big pay day in the Saudi Pro League.
Romano told CaughtOffside exclusively for his latest Daily Briefing column that Lewandowski never thought about leaving Barcelona. He also said that the club wants to keep the 35-year-old as one of their key players under new boss Hansi Flick.
After signings of Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Riyad Mahrez, and N’Golo Kante, Lewandowski would have been a great addition to the Saudi Pro League. However, it looks like the player will stay in La Liga for a while longer.
How Romano put up the Lewandowski transfer situation
After reading a quote from Barcelona president Joan Laporta about Lewandowski, Romano said this about him: “Another story about the Saudi Pro League is that Barcelona president Joan Laporta admitted that Robert Lewandowski turned down big money to stay at Barca.”
“It’s true that Saudi Arabia was very interested in Lewandowski, but he never thought about leaving. He wants to play for Barcelona and be a part of the new project that Hansi Flick is starting at the club.” Along those lines, Barcelona is happy to keep Lewandowski as one of their stars.
Fans of Barcelona will be glad to keep Lewandowski for a while longer because he doesn’t seem to be slowing down with age. Last season, the former Bayern Munich player scored 26 goals across all tournaments.
