St. Johnstone interim manager Andy Kirk breaks silence and delivers his verdict over their 0-6 defeat against Celtic on Saturday
Tonight’s game was always going to be tough for St. Johnstone, and Celtic’s brutal 6-0 thrashing must have been hard to take.
Since Craig Levein had been fired, the home team didn’t have a stable manager going into the game, so not many people thought they would do well against the hot champions.
Celtic played as good as they said they would. Kyogo Furuhashi, Paulo Bernardo, Callum McGregor, Daizen Maeda, and Adam Idah all scored goals that swept the home team away.
Brendan Rodgers was clearly pleased; he chose Maeda’s tireless work as the team’s off-ball leader, which let them break down the home defense and take advantage of them.
Andy Kirk, the temporary manager of St. Johnstone, made it clear after the game that he thought Celtic were the best team in the league right now.
This is what Andy Kirk said about Celtic: “best team in the country.”
He told Premier Sports news reporters after the game, “It’s hard.” We learned about Celtic’s strength and knew they would give us a lot of trouble.
“What made us sad was that we could have done a lot better in three or four of the goals.” Basic defense means that we might be able to stop if we do it right.
“This is hard.” We know Celtic is a much better team. I think they’re the best team in the country. The league they play in is the Champions League. “We knew it would be very hard to keep them in check.”
In the interview, Kirk looked a little shocked, which is understandable given how bad things were for him, his team, and his players. Celtic made the most of it.
Listen, when Celtic are in that form, they’re sometimes impossible to stop,” he told The Courier. There are threats all over the field.
They are way, way ahead of us all over the field. You have to hold your hands up and say that. This season, they’ll likely do that to a lot of teams.
Celtic is no longer a threat to Scotland; now Europe waits.
It’s clear that Rodgers has made Celtic better over the last twelve months. In the closing third, there is hunger, a never-ending work ethic, great tactical awareness, and ruthless quality.
No one can argue that they are not the best team in Scotland, not even die-hard Rangers fans.
Even though they need to keep up their stability at home, Celtic’s current status will really be tested in Europe. The trip to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night will tell us a lot about how good the Boyz really are right now.
Will they be able to handle it like they did with Slovan Bratislava? Or will it be the same old away game on the continent?
What’s cool is that no one really knows. Celtic is taking a risk and deserves all the attention they are getting. Now it’s time to perform on the biggest stage once more.
