Dan Campbell, the head coach of the Detroit Lions, is fully confident in rookie guard Tate Ratledge as the 2025 NFL season approaches.
This year, Detroit’s starting right guard is expected to be Ratledge, who has a second-round draft choice in April. Campbell commended Ratledge’s development during camp, as the Georgia product had to earn that position.
Campbell stated, “I thought Tate Ratledge looked like a starting NFL guard yesterday, which fired me up,” as reported by Tim Twentyman of Lions.com. “Consequently, it is early; however, the child is improving.”
Despite his impressive performance in camp, Ratledge must occupy expansive shoes in Detroit. Kevin Zeitler, the team’s primary right guard, had an exceptional 2024 campaign. However, he departed for the Tennessee Titans in free agency.
However, Ratledge has the potential to surpass Zeitler’s performance and establish a dominant tandem on the right side of the offensive line alongside All-Pro tackle Penei Sewell.
Ratledge was one of the most comprehensive offensive linemen in the nation during his collegiate career at Georgia, where he allowed only two sacks. In 2022 and 2023, he achieved a pass-blocking grade of over 87 and never permitted more than seven pressures in a single season.
The 24-year-old has the potential to establish himself as a long-term member of the Lions’ offensive line and should immediately provide adequate play on the interior.
