William Saliba, an Arsenal center back, has sent a message to Manchester City before the new season.
For the second year in a row, Mikel Arteta’s team competed with City for the Premier League title. The race went all the way to the last day of the season. There were only two points between them, and City’s win over West Ham on the last day was enough to give them their fourth straight league title.
After being named to the PFA Team of the Year for the 2022–23 season, Saliba was a key member of the Gunners’ season this year. For Arsenal, he played every minute of the Premier League season and helped them only give up 29 goals.
William Saliba has been a steady defender for Mikel Arteta, and Arsenal had the best defense in the Premier League at the end of the season.
Saliba talked to the French newspaper L’Equipe before the European Championships in Germany. He thinks that Arsenal are getting close to the level of Manchester City.
“We played against them three times [last season] and we made them struggle,” he added. “They and I both feel close to each other.” The war will be even better next year.”
There is still work to be done to get even higher, but I can focus a lot better now. I used to be able to play a great game, but during one part of the game, I fell asleep. That’s not true anymore. I’m always on guard.”
He also stated that, after another great season at the Emirates Stadium, he is one of the top three Premier League defenders right now because he is always reliable and consistent. “I think I am in the top three [defenders in the league],” he said.
“I watch a lot of games, and we had the best defense at the end.” I’m a very humble person, but I was one of the top three players last season and again this season.
