Celtic F.C. are reportedly considering a summer move for former Chelsea F.C., West Ham United F.C. and Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. manager Graham Potter as a potential successor to Martin O’Neill, according to Football Insider.
Potter has built a strong reputation in English football, first earning praise for his work at Brighton before landing a high-profile move to Chelsea. He later took charge at West Ham but was dismissed earlier in the 2025/26 campaign.
The 50-year-old has since moved into international management and is currently in charge of the Swedish national team.
His contract with Sweden runs through their World Cup qualifying campaign, after which he could become a free agent. While the Swedish FA may attempt to extend his stay if qualification is secured, there remains a realistic possibility he could be available this summer.
The report suggests Celtic are already preparing for the possibility of managerial change, with O’Neill’s current deal set to expire at the end of the season. Developments regarding Potter’s situation with Sweden are expected soon, which could either strengthen or weaken the Hoops’ chances of making a move.
For now, Potter’s priority will be Sweden’s qualifying push, but a return to club management may appeal in the near future. Whether a switch to the Scottish Premiership would interest him remains uncertain.
Meanwhile, O’Neill faces mounting pressure. Recent setbacks — including a 2-1 home defeat to Hibernian and a heavy 4-1 loss to Stuttgart in the Europa League — have intensified scrutiny. Even some recent victories have required late drama, with last-gasp winners against Kilmarnock and Livingston highlighting inconsistency in performances.
Celtic may yet opt for change, though securing the Scottish Premiership title would significantly strengthen O’Neill’s case for an extended stay at Parkhead.
