Kris Boyd often loses his cool when discussing Celtic during his punditry work on Sky Sports. His lack of composure frequently makes him come across as unprofessional whenever the Hoops are the topic of debate. After Celtic’s win over Livingston, Boyd turned his attention to the Champions League play-off draw with Kairat Almaty — but quickly found himself shut down by Celtic legend Chris Sutton following a bizarre rant about Brendan Rodgers.
Chris Sutton shuts down Kris Boyd’s dig at Rodgers
During the broadcast, Sutton was criticising the Celtic board’s handling of the transfer window when Boyd jumped in, insisting Rodgers had been backed with “over £60m spent since he came back.”
Sutton challenged him:
-
“Did they replace Kyogo properly? Did they replace Nicolas Kuhn?”
Boyd replied: “If you need players in those positions, why sign more midfielders when you’ve already got plenty?”
Sutton fired back: “That’s irrelevant. What’s the net spend?”
Boyd dismissed that point, saying it “didn’t matter” and again claimed Rodgers was immune from criticism. Sutton, however, doubled down, arguing Celtic had failed to strengthen key areas and that the fans’ anger toward the board was justified.
Sutton echoes fans’ frustrations
Sutton’s comments mirrored the feelings of many Celtic supporters, who are frustrated with what they see as a poor transfer strategy. Boyd, meanwhile, seemed to miss the point, leaving him looking out of touch with the mood among fans.
With Celtic closing in on Michel-Ange Balikwisha, there’s hope the board will finally deliver the reinforcements Rodgers needs — and, at least temporarily, silence Boyd’s constant anti-Celtic rants.
