“That’s the theory” – Callum McGregor fires back at Scottish football coach Barry Ferguson criticizing comment with a savage reply after Celtic F.C win vs Rangers
In response to Barry Ferguson’s comments about going after Callum McGregor in Saturday’s derby between Celtic and Rangers, the midfielder has made his own statements.
Ferguson said in his Daily Record piece this past weekend that he got flak for saying that Philippe Clement’s team should try to foul and take out McGregor at Celtic Park.
McGregor is just now getting back to full health. He was back to his best in last week’s 3-0 win over Hearts, after making some changes to his training plan.
Again, coming into this one in good health, many people think that the Bhoys boss will play a big role in how today’s result turns out.
It’s clear to McGregor what Ferguson said. He’ll be glad if the Rangers only think about him.
What Callum McGregor had to say about Rangers pursuing him
It was written in the Daily Record on November 5, and he said, “That’s the theory.” Someone else can go win the game for us while they’re looking at me!
“You should take compliments like this as a compliment.” But we have a way to hurt you in different ways if you try to put too much pressure on one person.
McGregor has been to this game before, so he won’t be surprised by any strategy he sees today.
McGregor has a great record against Rangers.
The Celtic leader has played against the Ibrox team 37 times and has won 20 times, tied six times, and not lost any of those games.
He has scored four goals and set up three more in that time, but what makes him such a good choice is how well he helps his attacking teammates.
If Celtic wins or draws today, they will be well on their way to winning their 21st major prize with the Bhoys and the Scottish Premiership.
VAR CONTROVERSY: “Questionable” – How Mohamed Diomande took down Celtic 23-year-old midfielder Matt O’Riley 51st minute of the match vs Rangers
Willie Collum gave a penalty in the 51st minute, even though Mohamed Diomande clearly clipped Matt O’Riley. VAR looked into the call.
The review took four minutes all together, and Collum was sent to the monitor to look over his first choice.
In the video below, you can see O’Riley trying to play a through ball, but Diomande makes contact with him, stopping him from making the pass. Diomande falls to the ground with his foot far from the ball because of the contact.
To put it simply, O’Riley can play a pass in the Rangers box if Diomande doesn’t make touch. This is a foul, so there is a penalty.
And Collum made the right choice by going with the penalty award. But it’s not clear why VAR even looked at the penalty award in the first place; there was no clear mistake in the decision.
Without a doubt, the long time it took to review the ruling hurt O’Riley, who missed the penalty and Jack Butland made the save.
But it’s hard to believe that Steven McLean felt the need to send Collum to question himself in the first place, especially since Celtic fans at the game and watching from home didn’t know what McLean saw.
